Smales Order Is A Big Catch for Windsor

Hull-based fish merchant F Smales and Son has taken delivery of a new fleet of forklifts for its national distribution centre, supplied by local forklift experts Windsor Materials Handling.

The new fleet of Doosan counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks and pallet trucks, will operate in the company’s main cold store, which forms the hub of the operation to supply fish & chip shops and large food service specialists throughout the country.

Established in 1937 at the Hull fish markets, the family-run Smales business is a great local success story, becoming the number one choice for the UK’s fish and chip sector and maintaining the same values and standards of quality and reliability that have been handed down from each generation.

When the company recognised their need for new materials handling equipment they realised they needed a supplier who upheld the same values and level of service as them. Having being a trusted supplier for over five years, Windsor Materials Handling was the obvious choice.

Darren Dixon, Smales senior operations manager, said: “Windsor’s level of service has always been great. They really have taken the time to understand what our business is about, and what we need from our trucks. With Paul Williams and the team advising us, we feel they add a real personal touch to the work they do for us.”

“If we ever have any problems with our trucks, there is always a local expert both in sales and service at the end of the phone to speak to and help us resolve any situations and send someone out the same day.”

Established in 1977 Windsor has grown into one of the largest independent forklifts companies in the UK. Windsor’s sales manager, Paul Williams explained how the two companies have established such a rapport, said Paul:

“We have developed a great working relationship and developed an understanding of the specific product qualities they need from their forklifts. Our job is to provide them with reliable trucks that deliver cost effective and efficient solutions to their material handling needs. We understand the knock on effect that occurs if one of their trucks is out of action and how it not only affects their business but also their clients’ business.”

Stephen Burton, Managing Director at Windsor understands how important it is that local businesses in the area support each other.

Said Steve: “We always aim to provide a fantastic service to our clients, so they continue to come back to us time and time again. Naturally, we’re delighted to be working with Smales again, it is a pleasure to find a business that is proud of its local links and shares the same ethics and values we do.”

Windsor provide a first class range of forklift hire, sales and maintenance services. The company became a Doosan authorised distributor in 2009 offering a value brand that meets the performance requirements of businesses throughout The North East, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Eastern England. The company specialises in access platforms as well as a wide range of materials handling equipment and is ideally positioned to offer customers a total solution from a single source.
